    28 Sep - Tue - Impressionism

Those of us who have heard ArtMatters presentations in the past know how wonderful they have been. ArtMatters brings us large, colorful fine art reproductions of the artwork being discussed and displays them across the front of the Pond Room, so we can look at all of them during the entire presentation and afterwards. On Tuesday, September 28, ArtMatters will be with us again at the Jenks Center, this time speakiing about Impressionism.

The Impressionists, painters of light, painters of nature and painters of human nature, changed the way the whole world looked at art. Please join us for a close look at many of the paintings that moved the world into the modern era.

This program is presented by the Education Committee of the Winchester Seniors Association and is supported by a grant from the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation.

24 Sep - Fri - Annual Men’s Cookout: NOT for Men Only!

    Annual Men’s Cookout
NOT for Men Only! Ladies, You Are Invited!
    Friday, September 24 5 p.m. Pond Room

It’s coming again – a yearly favorite – the Annual Men’s Cookout. It’s that occasion when the men do all the planning, buying of food, grilling, serving and clean-up, but it’s not for men only. This event is open to all - men and women, and it’s an opportunity for those of us who usually do the cooking to sit back and enjoy the meal without having to do the work. A real treat!
The food will be the usual bar-b-que fair that we all love- hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, salads, corn on the cob, desserts, and beverages, so reserve the date on your calendars. You may start signing up for this popular event any time at the Center or by calling 781-721-7136. Cost is $8 per person and must be paid by September 22, the first day of autumn.

    22 Sep - Wed - Volunteer Orientation

    Volunteer Orientation

The WSA cordially invites all volunteers and those interested in volunteering to attend a Volunteer Orientation Tea on Wednesday, September 15.
The Jenks Center is a valuable resource that is run almost entirely by volunteers. There are numerous programs available here that could not otherwise be offered to the community, if it were not for the generous contribution of time and effort of our volunteers. If you are already a volunteer at the Jenks, we thank you! If you do not volunteer here, we ask you to consider doing so. Come to the Center on September 15 and learn about all the various opportunities available. You’ll meet some nice people and find that there’s something for everyone, with schedules that can be accommodated to suit yours.
Enter a free raffle to win a prize; bring a friend and you’ll each receive a favor. Refreshments will be served. This event is open to all, and there is no obligation.

16 Sep - Thu - The Emporer's Private Paradise:Treasures from the Forbidden City

If you saw the front page of the Boston Globe on Thursday, July 29, you read about a fabulous new exhibit coming on September 14 to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. We are fortunate to be able to bring a docent from the PEM, Roberta Neuman, to the Jenks Center on September 16 to tell us about the exhibit.

Now for the first time, 90 objects of ceremony and leisure - murals, paintings, furniture, architectural and garden components, jade and cloisonne - will be on view at the PEM. The exhibit will reveal the contemplative life and refined vision of one of history's most influential rulers, Emperor Puyi, with artworks from one of the most magnificent places in the world.

Please Note: The WSA Travel Committee is planning a day trip to the Peabody Essex Museum on Tuesday, October 19, for a glimpse of the treasures of the Forbidden City of Beijing. See more details at the Center and in the October Newsletter.
