    This is me

I am WinCentral's community reporter. I'm on the lookout for interesting stories in Winchester.

I was born in Winchester in 1984 and was educated in its public schools. In May of 1999 I won a Boston Globe essay contest, 'How a Teacher Inspired Me' and my essay was published on the front page of their Sunday edition. After graduating Winchester High School, I attended Bowdoin College in Maine where I was the recipient of the following awards: the Hawthorn Short Story Prize (2006), the Sinkinson Short Story Prize (both 2006 and 2007), the Brown Extemporaneous Composition Prize (2007), and the Smith Jr. Prize for Best Scholar of English Literature (2006). I graduated in 2007 with Latin Honors. I recently finished my first novel and am currently seeking its publication.

Best Chinese food in-around Winchester For sushi in the area, Sato II on Main Street in Stoneham is absolutely topnotch. Their sushi is second to none and they have live jazz on Thursday nights. They have a Chinese menu as well. I've never tried it but if it's anything like their sushi menu then it's probably fabulous.

Best Chinese food in-around Winchester The Chili Garden in Medford delivers in Winchester. They do wonderful sichuan dishes, which are great if you like spicy food. In particular I'd recommend the house special chicken and the chili wantons in vinegar sauce.

Traffic Lights at center Rotary I was just passing through downtown and I noticed that the lights at the rotary are now flashing yellow. Good work everyone.

Traffic Lights at center Rotary As the writer of the article, here is what I would recommend to expedite change and get this problem addressed as soon as possible: Call the Winchester PD at 729-1213 and ask to speak to the safety officer, Sgt. Arthur Houllahan. He's a nice, approachable man and seems genuinely responsible to citizen's concerns. Tell him that you think the green light at the rotary is a safety issue and that it needs to be changed to a flashing yellow ASAP for the sake of public safety. The more people that call in, the more likely it is that this problem can be addressed BEFORE someone gets hurt. If you don't have the time to call in, shoot him an email at ahoullahan@winchesterpd.org. I don't know if he's gone out to the rotary since I published my story but if he hasn't, urge him to look at the video on the website. As citizens, we're more effective when we work together. One person by themselves might get understandably discouraged in the face of delays and inaction, especially in this case when the problem and its solution seem so obvious. But when we speak as a community, we can make ourselves heard. If the light at the rotary seems like a serious concern to you, then speak up and encourage your neighbors to do so. That's how necessary change happens.

Any last minutes dessert suggestions? Buy a chocolate angel food cake from Whole Foods along with some organic strawberries and blueberries. Whip some heavy cream until it has the consistency of whipped cream (not too much or it'll turn to butter, not too little or it'll be thin and soupy). Sprinkle the berries generously over the cake and inside of it. Top it with your homemade whipped cream. The whole thing takes about five minutes to put together once you have the ingredients. It looks great and it's extremely delicious.
