My Life, My Health: A chronic disease self management program information session
Do you have a chronic disease, such as heart disease, diabetes, elevated blood pressure, arthritis? How well do you manage your daily activities while dealing with your condition?
On March 9 and 16 at 1 p.m. at the Jenks Center, there will be an information session to introduce you to “My Life, My Health,” a chronic disease self management program that will be held for 6 weeks starting March 23 at the Jenks Center.
Subjects covered in the six-week program include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition.
It is the process in which the program is taught that makes it effective. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
Please join one of the information sessions to learn about this opportunity or call the instructor, Peg Mikkola, LDN, Healthy Aging Coordinator for Minuteman Senior Services, at 781-221-7018 if you have questions.
